People often assume that winter must be hard on me. They’re wrong. I love it. Thermometer-watching is very entertaining. It’s cozy by the wood stove. Cold nights under my thick down comforter are much better for sleep. And winter makes beautiful, often-changing visions outside my windows. Besides, everyone spends a lot of time inside in the winter, so the contrast between me and Them is softened just a bit. There’s nothing winter brings that’s as hard on me as serious summer heat.
Here’s a lovely list at Green Words Growing of good things about winter.
I like that! You are so right. It does even the playing field just a bit... and when the weather is really bad, well, we are all inside:)

ReplyDeleteWhile I was driving down the highway through Iowa the other day, I saw a stand of poplar covered with ice. It was so odd, and so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to stop and take a picture of it, but I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get traction to get back on the highway from the side of the road.
I regret not snapping that picture now.
I would have warmed up by now, even if I had gotten stuck in the snow.
Next time.
Love your snow drawing, it's been the longest, hottest, humidest summer here - the reminder of cooler weather to come is just lovely!
