Sometimes when I eat yogurt, I turn my spoon upside-down before the yogurt enters my mouth. For some strange reason this bugs my wife.

ReplyDeleteProvided you all ingest your yoghurt / yogurt / yoghourt / youghurt / yogourt orally I think we should celebrate the rich diversity demonstrated by this thread.

This subject is crying out for a survey. I can't wait to hear what's correlated with dairy food mastication disorder. Maybe a new syndrome will be discovered -- and you may get naming rights, Priscilla.

ReplyDeleteI also used to put the spoon in the side of my mouth and suck on it so that my cheek pulled in taut around the protruding shape of the spoon. (That was beyond my powers of representation for cartooning, and, besides, I seem to have dropped that habit.) This nearly traumatized one visiting friend who lived quite far away and said she was used to me as “a disembodied voice of wisdom.” I’m so much more—really.
My grandmother chewed water. She couldn't swallow it otherwise.

ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't say uselessly, since they are usefully chewing yoghurt! But yeah, I'd say there's a bit of clacking. Mostly they're so busy being infuriated with me for eating too slowly (apparently) that clacking and spoon-sculpture-in-mouth are the least of the issues...
